While working the other day, I was driving back to the shop from a job site. I flipped through radio stations trying to find one that wasn't on commercial. I landed on a religious station. I enjoy listening to what they have to say, even if it is off the wall.
The speaker that day was talking about apostasy in the last days. That immediately caught my attention. I wanted to hear what he had to say on the subject. This pastor was quoting from 1 Timothy 4. He had a lot to say about what it would be like and started talking about how we can see the signs of apostasy.
Now the reason for the post. One of the signs the pastor said would happen is people would try to add to the bible. I thought, "Oh boy here comes the passage from Revelations about not adding to or taking from the book passage." I wasn't wrong, but the interesting thing is that he first quoted Deuteronomy 4:2, which is almost the same wording as Revelations. He said that it is quoted in the fist of the book and at the end, which shows us how god feels about His Holy Word. He also said, speaking of Revelations 22:18-19, "I don't know if John was speaking of just his book or of the Bible, but anyone who adds or takes away from the Bible will have these curses fall upon him."
First of all if you don't know, don't speak. Secondly, how can you really look at those two verses and come up with that conclusion. Although he didn't come out and say it, I got the feeling he was thinking of the Book of Mormon when he talked about adding to "The Book." It just peeves me that people can be so blinded. I can't say I fully understand everything, but come on.
The good thing I did get out of this whole episode is getting some good scripture references about the Apostasy. He really did have some good ones.
